Todo Takatora & Kyogoku Takatomo’s Encampment (Sekigahara Town)

Location:2491-101 Oaza Sekigahara, Sekigahara Town

Todo and Kyogoku’s forces crossed swords with the troops commanded by Otani Yoshitsugu once the battle got underway. With the Kobayakawa Hideaki defection, Wakisaka Yasuharu, who had been let in on the ruse by Todo, also changed sides, and they led the Eastern Army to victory.

Fukushima Masanori’s Encampment (Sekigahara Town)

Location:111 Oaza Matsuo, Sekigahara Town

Despite receiving favors from the Toyotomi clan, Fukushima Masanori had a rivalry with Ishida Mitsunari and, so joined the Eastern Army. He attacked Ukita’s battalion soon after allowing Matsudaira and Ii to gain the honor to spearhead the Eastern Army by stealing a march on him.

Ukita Hideie’s Encampment (Sekigahara Town)

Location:4146-1 Oaza Sekigahara, Sekigahara Town

Ukita Hideie was the assistant commanding officer of the Western Army, but he took up the rear guard when the time came for the army to march onto Sekigahara. He was caught up by Fukushima’s troops, who were at the head of the Eastern Army during the midnight march. This is said to have led to skirmishes. He took 17,000 men to fight in the main battle, the largest force of the Western Army.

Battle Commencement Memorial (Sekigahara Town)

Location:2368-1 Oaza Sekigahara, Sekigahara Town

The Western Army used a v-shaped formation consisting of Ishida Mitsunari at Mt. Sasao and Kobayakawa Hideaki at Mt. Matsuo, while the Eastern Army employed a fish formation with Fukushima Masanori at the vanguard in the center of the Sekigahara Basin. The decisive battle got underway when Matsudaira Tadayoshi and Ii Naomasa opened fire on Ukita’s battalion.

Ishida Mitsunari’s Encampment

Location:4008 Oaza Sekigahara, Sekigahara Town

Ishida Mitsunari took up position at the top of the mountain because of its panoramic view of all Sekigahara and because the Hokkoku Kaido Road could be controlled. The troops of Shima Sakon and others, who had set up camp at the foot of the mountain, put up a good fight, but were gradually pushed back, and the Western Armies were routed one by one due to Kobayakawa Hideaki’s betrayal. Mitsunari fled in the direction of Mt. Ibuki.

Tokugawa Ieyasu's Final Encampment(Sekigahara Town)

Location:959-2 Oaza Sekigahara, Sekigahara Town

About 11.00 in the morning, Tokugawa Ieyasu moved his headquarters to this camp, positioned head-on with Mitsunari’s camp on Mt. Sasao, to identify the progress of the battle. According to one theory, Ieyasu threatened Kobayakawa Hideaki at Mt. Matsuo by firing gunshots from here. After the battle, the severed head viewing ceremony was held here.

Matsudaira Tadayoshi & Ii Naomasa's Encampment(Sekigahara Town)

Location :908-3 Oaza Sekigahara, Sekigahara Town

On the day of the Battle of Sekigahara, the army took up its position near the current JR Sekigahara train station. Fukushima Masanori was at the head of the Eastern Army, but Ii Naomasa thought it vital that the Tokugawa clan spearheaded the attack, so he stole a march on the army with Matsudaira Tadayoshi and opened fire on Ukita’s troops, triggering the Battle of Sekigahara.
