Matsudaira Tadayoshi & Ii Naomasa's Encampment(Sekigahara Town)

Location :908-3 Oaza Sekigahara, Sekigahara Town

On the day of the Battle of Sekigahara, the army took up its position near the current JR Sekigahara train station. Fukushima Masanori was at the head of the Eastern Army, but Ii Naomasa thought it vital that the Tokugawa clan spearheaded the attack, so he stole a march on the army with Matsudaira Tadayoshi and opened fire on Ukita’s troops, triggering the Battle of Sekigahara.

Battle Site Memorial (Sekigahara Town)

Location:1202 Oaza Sekigahara, Sekigahara Town

When the Western Army was routed due to the betrayal of Kobayakawa Hideaki, it is said that this land was filled with Eastern Army troops who took the attack to the troops of Ishida and Shimazu. The outcome of this decisive battle was settled in just half a day.

Satsuma Pond (Sekigahara Town)

Location: 1827-1 Oaza Sekigahara, Sekigahara Town

This is a small pond that Shimazu’s battalion used for military purposes when they set up camp here. It is said that water has never dried up here since ancient times.

Shimazu Yoshihiro's Encampment (Sekigahara Town)

Location:1869-3 Oaza Sekigahara, Sekigahara Town

Yoshihiro set up camp here with his nephew, Shimazu Toyohisa, in command of an army of 1,500 soldiers. Digging in to defend on the morning of the battle, he even refused Ishida Mitsunari’s request for reinforcements. When the Western Army was routed, he broke through enemy ranks and returned to Satsuma.

Tokugawa Ieyasu's Final Encampment(Sekigahara Town)

Location:959-2 Oaza Sekigahara, Sekigahara Town

About 11.00 in the morning, Tokugawa Ieyasu moved his headquarters to this camp, positioned head-on with Mitsunari’s camp on Mt. Sasao, to identify the progress of the battle. According to one theory, Ieyasu threatened Kobayakawa Hideaki at Mt. Matsuo by firing gunshots from here. After the battle, the severed head viewing ceremony was held here.

Honda Tadakatsu’s Encampment (Sekigahara Town)

Location: 3441-1 Oaza Sekigahara, Sekigahara Town

Honda Tadakatsu was one of the Shitenno (Tokugawa clan). On the afternoon of the battle, he gave chase to Shimazu Yoshihiro together with Matsudaira and Ii’s troops.

Utozaka and Shimazu Toyohisa’s Monument
(Ogaki City)

Location:Utozaka, Makida, Kamiishizu-cho, Ogaki City

Shimazu Toyohisa, who had spearheaded the retreat through enemy forces to facilitate Shimazu Yoshihiro’s escape, took up the rear guard around Utozaka, and is said to have fought gallantly against the pursuing Matsudaira Tadayoshi and Ii Naomasa of the Eastern Army before dying in the chaotic fighting.
